Erupting Carpet Spot Cleaner

Sounds a little intimidating and somewhat bad, right? Erupting carpet spot cleaner just sounds messy and like it would make the problem worse but for us it has been one of the best solutions that we have found outside of buying jugs of chemicals. By the way. We do have said jugs of chemicals for the few instances that this doesn’t work.

carpet cleaner WMSee it isn’t so bad! I called this erupting because when you first start to mix it the stuff does bubble and foam like one of those volcano science things we did as kids. It should because it is simple baking soda and white vinegar.

Step One

Mix vinegar and baking soda until they form a thick paste. The amounts will vary depending on how large of a spot you want to treat. I also tend to lay it on a little thicker just to be safe.

Step Two

Brush into carpet. I use an old toothbrush for this and yes you want to basically scrub this into the carpet.

Step Three

Let dry completely. It will smell like vinegar at first but the vinegar will go away and smells a lot better than some other things. Like dog urine. NOTE: yes, this does work on pet accidents. The baking may turn yellow but that is a good thing.

Step Four

Vacuum up the dried baking soda completely. If you have a vacuum attachment you may want to use one of those. Especially if you are like me and like to really scrub it in and put a thick layer down.

Now I have not tried this on spots like wine or grape juice so if you do please leave us a comment and let us know how it goes. This is just one of my personal favorites because it is all natural, easy, and uses stuff that we keep around anyways. Sam’s Club sized white vinegar and baking soda are essentials in our house because most all of our cleaning recipes uses one or both of them.
